It is all about her…

376I am referring back to my first WTF post because today really is all about her.

I am grateful that she suffered through 9 months of carrying me around and those painful hours of  labour because  I would not be here.

I am glad to be alive today because I have been given one more day to give back to those I love which I learned from her.

Thank you Mom.

Lee, My Brother-In-Law

WTF Wednesdays:

My Brother-in-law Lee

Lee is  forthright, intelligent, curious, clear, creative, enterprising and a visionary.

He is a husband, father, brother and son. He is an entrepreneur,  innkeeper, wilderness expert, off trail skier, hiker, furniture builder, a fix it guy, a canoe camper and a real live hero.

In The Beginning

Thank goodness for little brothers because if it was not for Lee then I don’t know if I would be married to my husband now. When Lee called his brother to tell him that he was planning on proposing to his girlfriend, that instantly made my  husband realized that he had better decide one way or the other. I couldn’t wait to finally meet Lee and thank him in person which ended up being at our wedding which we managed to schedule 6 months before he married.

 Epic Then

A quick call at all the major holidays. Cards being sent between our families. A couple of visits from Lee as he passed through our city  was all the real time we had with Lee in those early years. It has been fun getting to know Lee because he seems always cheerful especially when he calls. I always enjoyed have our discussions on topics of religion, schooling and life.

Epic Now

Regular Face Time chats and once a year weekend at the cottage is the way we stay connected these days. Even though we live so far away we feel closer than ever because of Lee and his consistent communication with our family. He is always the first to call.

University of Lee

1. Never be afraid to ask.

2. There is endless opportunities.

3. How to be the “good” son.

4. Call the people you love often.

5. What to do when a grizzly bear attack.

Fantasy Fabulosity

IMG_2499One day in the foreseeable future, Lee and I will canoe the 202 km of the Rideau Canal from Kingston to Ottawa. We will tackle the 47 locks and 24 lock-stations then at night we will find a great place to eat a delicious meal and then camp overnight. Each morning will be slightly overcast and warm as we paddle the waterway and learn about the oldest canal built in North America. On arriving into the capital city we would finish off downtown, meet up with our families and find a great place in the Byward market for lunch to celebrate completing our journey.

Ethiopian Food

I was not feeling so grateful this past month due to throwing myself deep into studying for an upcoming exam. I was completely wrapped up on studying, reading, memorizing and doing math problems. I was emotionally drained and creativity which I find challenging to begin  with was no where to be seen. I almost gave up on trying to write a blog post because really was it that important to “my” life?

Then one day this sweet person 007sent me this picture070

just because I told her how much I loved eating Ethiopian food. She wanted me to know that there was another restaurant in town just because she does things like that because she cares about “others“. She is the reason I started up this blog.

Thank you for reminding me why I need to continue to write about who and what I am grateful for in this life while I am still around to be able to it.

This blog was never about me.

Thanks Andrea!

Becky, My Sister-in-Law

WTF Wednesdays:

My Sister-in Law Becky

Becky is the sister I always wished I had growing up. Lucky me that I married a great guy who had a wonderful brother who found this extraordinary woman to marry so that we could be sisters-in- law.

She is a wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend to many. Becky is energetic, creative, fun loving, passionate, beautiful, powerful, adventurous and inspiration to be around.

Becky takes on many roles in her life from innkeeper, team leader, outdoor enthusiast, foodie, party planner, host, entertainer, cyclist, skier, boxer and Catechist teacher.

In The Beginning

347Becky and I met for the first time at my wedding rehearsal in 1998 because she lived across the country.  Getting to know one another would be a  challenge that weekend what with all of the last minute wedding details but she jumped right into help. The 2nd time we met was later that year at her wedding. It was an incredible year for the two of us marrying our dream guys and officially becoming sisters.

Epic Then

201Due to the great distance between us getting to know each other has consisted of many phone calls, emails, texts and cards filled with Hershey kisses. Becky has made sure since having children that a yearly visit back here was a  must for them and we were the beneficiaries of that visit because they always made time for us and our kids. It is because of their commitment, time, money and energy that has given us the time together to build our relationships as a family.

Even though we live a couple of thousand kilometers apart, Becky has manged to influence my life by inspiring me to get a midwife for my second child. It was something I never would have considered without her suggestion. Having a home birth is an experience of a lifetime and I am truly grateful for her support at that time. Thank you sista.

Epic Now

IMG_2551These days we have our one “long weekend” planned each summer at her family’s cottage. We are so blessed to be invited and share in such a unique and wonderful time where our two families mix together and great memories are created that are priceless. My kids have no idea how blessed they are to have an Aunt like Becky.

Our lives are moving fast these days but anytime I receive a phone call or text from her it always brightens my day.

University of Becky

1. Always pray about it.

2. Every problem is an opportunity to make things better.

3.  Create good things in your life.

4. Don’t be afraid to have fun.

5. Sitting on the “dock” with Becky will instantly make you glad you are alive.

Fantasy Fabulosity

imageThinking up a dream trip is easy because we are always talking about what we will do to get our families together more often. We would of course still spend our weekend at the cottage since that is already fabulous.  At Christmas time we would fly out west and spend a week skiing together. Once we were sick of the cold we would fly down to Las Vegas and stay at The Flamingo to soak up the sun, splash around in the lazy river, listen to great music and enjoy extravagant meals. As soon as we were finished indulging we would jet off to Italy to start a month long bike tour and wind it up in Rome where we would go and celebrate mass at The Vatican.

The Best Invention Ever

imageFaceTime has to be the best thing created in my lifetime because it allows you to stay close to those you love no matter where they are in the world.

I woke up this morning at 5:30am because my FaceTime starting ringing and it was my good friend who is on the other side of the world checking in to say hi.

Talk about waking up grateful this morning. It amazes me how much a good friend can change your day just because you were able to see them and hear how they are doing.

Thank you my friend. You made my day!

imageToday I walked the opposite way that I usually go because I wanted to force myself to see things differently.
What a useful exercise. I have come to understand for myself that doing as opposed to thinking is very beneficial.
I now get the mind, body, spirit connection. It has only taken some 40 years to figure it out.

I am simply grateful to know that I have had all this time to learn and grow.

Bursting with Joy

This morning I really woke up grateful because yesterday “Wednesday” was so wonderful. I had an ephiphany that I realized that friendship has to be the best gift we have been given for our benefit to live and be happy.

My day started out with a warm hug and helpful advice from a good friend who inspires me all the time then I spent the afternoon with amazing friends who share and listen and laugh and we are all so different. My day ended with an incredible email from a friend who is far away right now that affirmed for me how much these people mean to me and how my day only gets better when I spend time talking, walking, listening, laughing and just being with one another.

Really how much better can my life be? I plan on writing many WTF-Wednesday posts about these special people because just being with them makes me happy and I really do burst with joy because of them.

Thank you God for friendship. What a wonderful gift. For that I am truly grateful.
